Biodiversity
Biodiversity is the abundance of distinct living organisms
within an ecosystem. There are many different ecosystems on the planet,
such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs that are all part of a
biologically diverse Earth.
The amount of varied life forms that live in a certain place is a great
indication for how healthy that particular place is. Plants, animals
and humans have coexisted for thousands of years and almost every culture
has understood the importance of nature, and its biodiversity as it
is intertwined with their lives.
Yet humans continue to destroy the ecosystems upon which so much life
depends.
People have depended on biodiversity just as all living things have.
The consequences of offsetting the balance of ecosystems and predator
prey relationships have become a very difficult problem. Tampering with
the natural order of things is to skew this diversity, which will, and
has resulted in an immense amount of global issues, the most pressing
of which is climate change.
As we face the challenges of righting the wrongs and resetting the
balance of nature, we should understand the significance of biodiversity
and how the world of symbiotic relationships works within the confines
of an ecological system. Without such a rich variety of life Planet
Earth cannot function and with that neither can humans.
