Energy Conservation
Energy conservation is the practice of decreasing the
amount of energy used. In this day and age, the global community faces
an extreme energy crisis due to over consumption of fossil fuels. We
as citizens of the world have to live more responsibly and think more
seriously about energy conservation. A lot of our power comes from non-renewable
resources. In the last century people have begun using up fossil fuels
in such a way that the natural supply can’t meet the demand. The
best example of this overuse of fossil fuels is our dependency on oil.
Oil has become a primary resource that people of United States have
come to depend on greatly. We are an automobile society and our vehicles
run on petroleum, which we have discovered is becoming less available
as populations rise and more countries become increasingly dependant
on gasoline-powered transportation.
Energy conservation in terms of oil consumption will not only be necessary
in order to wean consumers off of their oil dependency, but it will
be necessary in stabilizing the balance of the Earth’s climate
as well. With respects to alternative energy, the United States and
other car-driven nations can reduce the use of exhaust, which is the
main producer of green house gasses. We can reduce these harmful emissions
by supporting electric cars, telecommuting, using public transportation
and riding bicycles.
Of course energy conservation isn’t limited to our use of oil
and transportation methods, we must also focus on water consumption,
over-illumination, and industrial energy use. However, as a global community,
we are beginning to understand the need to conserve energy and we are
fast approaching a time where it won’t be a choice anymore. By
heeding the warnings of global warming and other environmental problems
we can learn to wisely use the resources we have.
