Renewable Energy
A renewable supply is any energy or supply that is replenished
by a natural process at a rate that equal to or greater than the speed
at which it is used. Due to the impending global energy crisis brought
about by over consumption of fossil fuels, humans must turn to renewable
resources as a means for alternative energy. Some of these resources
include geothermal power, wind power, solar power and hydropower.
Renewable resources, if managed properly can improve the way we consume
energy, while improving our quality of life. One example of this type
of energy is geothermal power. Geothermal power is energy that is stored
beneath the earth’s surface, which can be used to heat buildings,
grow plants in greenhouses, melt snow in winter, heat water for fish
farming and the steam from this energy source can also be used in dry
steam plants to turn turbines.
Solar power is one of the renewable resources that has been used by
humans for thousands of years. It can be used for heat, providing light
for buildings, generating heat for water and cooking, and it can be
used for generating electricity.
Hydropower, which is derived from the force of moving water, has been
harnessed for centuries. Water running over a waterwheel can be used
to operate machinery, hydroelectric dams are able to harness the incredible
force of flowing water in order to generate electricity; and irrigation
is a great way to divert water and spread it over vast spaces where
water generally doesn’t exist in order to grow crops as well as
provide potable drinking water.
